MINIATURE BADMINTON

This is a nice little game, made in the 50's/60's. There are four little racquets in different colours, three shuttlecocks for each colour and a grid with holes in and numbers underneath to help you score. All complete and in good condition (except that the grid is a little sunken). PRICE: £12.00

SEE THE NOTE ON HOME PAGE*****

POCKET DARTS

This is a nice little item for a collector. It is a cork dart board about 7" in diameter with "legs" to make it stand and three darts to throw at it. I would hesitate to give this to young children as the darts have nasty metal points! With it is its original invoice. The game was bought at Boots for one shilling in the days before tills gave out receipts....probably the 1950's from the box. PRICE: £15.00

1920'S CHAD VALLEY MAH JONGG SET - CARDBOARD

In the 1920's Chad Valley seems to have been quite up-to-date with the needs of the mah-jongg playing public. They made bakelite sets, playing card sets and this little set with very heavy card tiles. This set is complete with playing instructions and all the tiles. The only things missing are two round card discs for the West and East winds but they aren't entirely necessary as - in play - you could work out which wind a person is by the winds either side. Also included in this set are four wooden stands to hold the tiles. A really lovely set in good condition and in the original box. PRICE: £25.00

SOKKER-SHY - GLEVUM GAMES

This is a fun-looking game. There's a piece of wood with some holes in to hold five hoops, and two more holes to hold up a net. There are five balls - all in very good condition (as are the wood, the net and the hoops) and four of the original five 'projectiles'. According to the rules (stuck to the inside of the lid) there should also be a little felt bag from which you shoot the 'projectiles' by squeezing it but this is missing. The box (approx. 16" x 9")is complete but has a little repair work to the sides and corners. All in all this is a great game to play and a wonderful addition to your collection! PRICE: £30.00

TWO GAMES LIKE SPILLIKINS

Pictured are two games which I would have called "Pick-Up-Sticks" as a child. The first is an interesting set called PELL MELL - THE GAME OF ROYAL STICKS. They come in a square 'tube' of cardboard with the name on the outside and with a complete set of rules. There's no sign of a maker but I believe this set comes from the 1930's. The sticks are quite faded but still useable. PRICE: £8.00

and

a set of PIK-A-STYK made by HP Gibson with its rules and the hint that it was made in early fourth quarter of the 20th century. Complete with rules. PRICE: SOLD

WORD MAKING AND WORD TAKING

This seems to have been a popular game for many years. The one pictured is an early mid-20th century set by Gibson. The graphics on the box are great and the box is brim-full of letters of the alphabet. PRICE: £10.00

and several more sets from the 1890's to the 1930's. Let me know what you're looking for and I'll let you know what I have!

HALMA SET

This is a lovely Halma set by Ayres. There is a mauchline box with a great label showing Greek warriors. There are four sets of 'men' - quite posh ones, too, for Halma; and there's an Ayres board, as well, made of heavy card and in great condition considering it and the rest were made about 1895. One of the men has been replaced with another, similar. There are no instructions but I'll photo-copy some from another set for you. Learn something new! or go back to an old favourite...Halma. PRICE: £60.00

And other cheaper sets if you're just learning and want to find out what Halma is all about. From £8.00

EVENING IN PARIS & ENDEARING CARDS

This is a gorgeous little box covered to make it look like shagreen containing two decks of cards advertising perfumes. The Waddington's cards are in very good condition and seem not to have been used much at all. I would guess that this set was made in the 1950's. PRICE: £30.00

AUCTIONEER

According to sources, this game is nearly 100 years old - it purportedly came out in 1916 - and is by Glevum games. I would have said that the picture on the lid was a little later, myself, but I'm no expert! Whatever, the game is in lovely condition with the cards, "coins" (all dated 1916) and gavel are all here as well as the rules. The box is a little tired but holds everything safely. PRICE: £30.00

A PLETHORA OF PUZZLES!!!

No space to put these on separately, so I decided to do it altogether! At the top left is a BRAHMA puzzle by Journet. This is one of those puzzles where you have to move the discs one at a time and end up with the same pattern on another upright. It comes with a sheet telling you how to do it, once you get fed up! PRICE: £30.00
Next to that one on the top right is the NIAGARA Puzzle, also by Journet. This one probably came out soon after Annie Edson Taylor went over the Falls in a barrel (1901). There are five ball bearings and a platform on the "Falls". You have to get the balls lined up on the platform and then, one at a time, tip them into the "Whirlpool" at the bottom of the "Falls". PRICE: sold
Underneath Niagara is THE DIABOLICAL TUBES puzzle, again by Journet. In this one you have to get all the tubes inside each other then separate them again. An impossibility, to me! PRICE: £40.00
THE SUBWAY PUZZLE comes next. Also by Journet, this is quite a large one and
again one in which you have to move the ball bearing from underneath, along the grooves into the middle. PRICE: £30.00
An unusual ANCHOR stone puzzle comes next. This one is number 14, also called BE QUIET because "you will be as quiet as a mouse" while doing it. It comes with the usual Anchor booklet and the descriptive leaflet. PRICE: £20.00
Next is the CLOCK PUZZLE, a Journet puzzle in which you put the balls on the clock to indicate your Lucky Hour. PRICE: £20.00
Lastly we have the FORM FOURS PUZZLE, made by an unknown English company, probably at the beginning of the 20th century. (Anyone with knowledge of the British Patent system might be able to work out the date from the provisional patent number of 2270). This puzzle has 20 indentations in the 'bed' of the puzzle and 12 balls. You have to make one design after the other, I think, though my mind is a bit fuddled today! This one is in fine condition. PRICE: SOLD

SPORT IM LOTTO

This is a Lotto game based on sporting pictures and words - but in German. I believe it was produced in the 1950's in Germany for Germans but it would be a great way to teach various words to students of the language nowadays. There are eight cards, each divided into eight and lots of little cards matching to pictures and words on the bigger cards. It's all in very good condition. PRICE: £15.00

FIND THE LINK - A Pepys party game

This is a full set of one of Pepys' party games produced in the 1950's and based on "The Famous TV Panel Game". The cards and box together with the rules are in great condition and a good addition to a collection of this type of game. PRICE: £15.00

CRICKET AT LORD’S BY CHAD VALLEY

This is a great Cricket game to play on your table. There are two bowlers and nine fielders – the human players are the batsmen. There are also two bats, two balls, two wickets with bails and a score board with lots of numbers to be placed thereon. The rules are in the lid. This copy of the game dates to the early to mid-fifties though it was introduced around 1949. The players, bats, balls, wickets, score-board, numbers are all in great condition but the elastic bands used to propel the bowlers’ arms need replacing. The box is in good condition, holding the items safely but is a little tired. PRICE: £50.00

THREE INTERESTING DECKS OF CARDS

In order to be absolutely politically correct I have hidden the picture of the nude on the card! This deck is one known as a "glamour" deck with each card having a different nude. On the backs is a picture of the wolf you can see on the joker. The card covering the embarassing bits of the young lady says: "For the approval of the discriminating artist and connoisseur of art, fifty-two separate and distinct art studies....". The deck is complete but without a box. The cards are in very good condition although sometimes a little of the colour from the back of the card on top has made a thin outline on the card below it. I think these cards must date from the fifties and, though the ladies are nude, they seem very innocent and not erotic. PRICE: SOLD

To the left of the picture is a deck of CONGRESS 606W cards made by the US Playing Card Co. in Cincinnati. The cards are gold edged, complete and in excellent condition, as is the box. On the back of each card is the Moose. PRICE: £10.00

SOUTHERN PACIFIC CARDS - This is a full deck of cards, each with a different picture of a place which is connected to all the others by the Southern Pacific Railway in the USA. The cards are gold edged and in excellent condition except for the Ace of Diamonds which has a small tear on one corner. With the deck comes a booklet giving details of all the places shown and a card with a map of the routes and connections across America. All this come in a box with a sliding lid. The cards were published by the Interstate Company sometime between 1915 and 1920. PRICE: SOLD

SPINTOPS - MERIT/J&L RANDALL LTD

This is quite a modern game for me! The date on the box is 1960 in Roman Numerals so I imagine that's when it came out. This box is in excellent condition with one small bit of paper loss where there was a label. The inside is excellent too. It is a 'board' going the length of the box and rather like a bagatelle board - it has holes of varying sizes, each marked with a score. You take the little plastic tops and spin them on the "Starting Area" and watch them travel up the board, hoping that they will get to the top and land in the "500" hole. More likely they will end up not going into any of the holes and being removed from the board. There are ten usable tops in blue, red, green and yellow. One of the yellow ones has the tip of the spindle missing but it still spins really well. PRICE: £12.00

SAMLO - A building set made of card

This is an interesting set. It is lacking a box so I'm not sure whether it is Outfit A,B,c,D or E but whichever, the booklet gives instructions on building them all. The booklet is in great condition with its front and back still attached and most of the components seem to be quite good, too, although there are a few bends here and there. The set was made by John Waddington Ltd but nowhere is there a mention of it so I don't know when it was made. I tried to trace the patent number and the trademark number but couldn't get anywhere! There are 96 pieces plus all the windows that I didn't count (possibly, then, 125 to 150 pieces altogether). PRICE: £30.00
