WOODEN BEETLE GAME

I've never seen one like this before although I found some modern ones on-line. This is a Beetle game with a difference in that the parts of the beetle are also parts of four little jigsaw puzzles. Each beetle has its legs, body etc all made with wood covered with paper. There is no maker's name and no indication of its age but I would guess that it is fairly late for me...about the 1950's to 60's. The boards are in good condition, the original plastic dice cup is present and a die but the rules and "History of the Game" are missing - though I'm sure they can be found on-line. PRICE: £ 12.00
Thanks to MW who has suggested that this game probably only dates from the early 90's and was produced for Past Times. It's still quite nice, though!

GLIDING GAME BOARD, DIE AND PIECES

This lovely board, made by Spears in England but, I think, using the original German graphics, comes with the lid of the box but missing the base. The instructions for the game are in the lid (which has seen better days) but the board is in lovely condition. It was first produced in 1936. PRICE: £12.00

SPOIL FIVE

This is a game which is still played today under various names. The object is to place your pegs in the board and get five in a row while your opponent tries to stop you and at the same time get five in a row. It's the same game as Peggity and Pegit but this one has a HEAVY bakelite/plastic board and big wooden pegs. The game is complete and the box (with its great picture) is in good condition although the lid has split corners and has tape residue around the sides. The rules are in the lid. PRICE: £20.00

NETBALL GAME - BY GLEVUM

This is a simple game in the Glevum series, made in England around the 1930's, I would guess. The bottom of the box is the play area; there is a cardboard partition across the middle on to which you hook the wire stand with the "basket" attached. The rules (in part one of the base) state that each player stands a short distance from the table and tries to bounce the ball from the table into the basket. The lid graphics show one basket on one stand and several balls. The instructions suggest that there are more than one basket but don't really mention how many balls there should be. This has one stand, one basket and one ball. PRICE: sold

BALYNA SUPER SOCCER JUNIOR GAME

This is a BALYNA SUPER SOCCER JUNIOR set including all the magnets, players, board with legs etc....you probably know better about this game! Except for a little grubbiness on the board, everything is great - even the original packaging which in this case is plain brown cardboard. PRICE: £25.00

RACE GAME - BRITISH MANUFACTURE

The board in this set has the same graphics as the one on the Antique Games page but it is a two fold board with plain back. The board is in great condition along with three pressed tin horses, a die and dice cup. The lid of the box has split corners and is in very grubby condition but the lid graphics are interesting. PRICE: £10.00 reserved

ROULETTE

This isn't the normal casino type roulette - it's a spinner inside a box with a light-weight hollow plastic ball. The instructions say "players take it in turn to spin the Roulette, and according to the colour on which the ball rests when it has finished spinning, so they score" and then goes on to tell you how much each colour is worth - even though each colour is clearly marked with its value! It's a simple little game in its original box with interesting graphics and in very good condition for cardboard from the 1930's. PRICE: £15.00

AIRPORT GAME - FAIRYLITE

This is a nice little 1950's game board with box holding all the pieces - four small plastic aeroplanes, die, dice cup and a couple of extra wooden men. The instructions are in the lid of the little box The board is in good condition with wear around the edges and a slight separation of the two sides at the bottom. The box is in really good condition, three of the four planes have a little "bloom" on them which scrapes off with a fingernail. The dice cup and die are original to the set, I believe. PRICE: £25.00

BAYKO SET - No. 0 - CIRCA 1951

This is a small, basic set of Bayko parts along with the manual and price list which can be dated to around 1951 by the front cover of the manual. It all looks like it is in great condition. The manual is complete and undamaged except for a very small tear in the cover and the price list is in good condition except for a little creasing along the bottom. I haven't gone through the contents completely but it looks like it's all there. There is a little box for the rods (although it contains other things and the rods are collected together under some bubble wrap). The outer box is in good condition but has some staining on one edge and on the bottom. A good little set! PRICE: £18.00

MOTOR CHASE ACROSS LONDON - BY GEOGRAPHIA LTD

This is an "exciting, entertaining and educative" game produced in the 1950's and played on a board which is a map of London. There are five little metal cars, a die and a dice thrower in the box. (I'm not certain that the cars are original as they are not all the same design) The board is in good but not perfect condition - the paper has torn down the centre. Nonetheless, this is a good set. No rules, however, but I have read that whoever throws the lowest roll of the dice at the start is the baddie. He is in charge of the black car while trying to evade the police. The objective is for the baddie to reach 'home' before being caught - if he gets there, he wins. The pursuers have to try and overtake him, or draw level, in which case they nab the escapee and thus win the game. I'm not certain that I can follow this on the board but I haven't tried playing it. PRICE: £25.00

SKIP BALL - SPEAR'S GAMES C.1938

This game looks like it could have been made yesterday, it's so clean, but nowadays no-one would use painted or stained wood and ceramic marbles (it'd all be plastic!) One long side of the bottom of the box has a triangular wooden cross-piece instead of a cardboard side and on the other long side there are two pieces of wood with grooves to hold a piece of very heavy card on to which are stuck six 'cups'. The instructions say" Give the ball as long a roll as possible before it runs up the slope of the box and you will find that it springs more readily." The rest of the rules are printed in the lid of this excellent game (along with adverts for "Whoa-Neddy" and "Quintro"). It's complete and in its excellent box! PRICE: £25.00

GREYHOUND RACING GAME - DETOY BROS.

This is quite a simple game consisting of six lead greyhounds and 6 metal hurdles, a dice cup and a die and some race card price tickets. You are meant to set up the hurdles along a table, place your bets and throw the dice. The instructions are included in the original box. I believe it comes from the 1950's (judging by the graphics) but it could be earlier. PRICE: GBP 35.00

and a small cardboard greyhound racing track not related to above but without any bits and pieces or box. GBP 5.00

SCOUTING GAME BOARD - CHAD VALLEY

This is the board that goes with the Chad Valley game of "Scouting". It appears to have been made during the very early years of scouting and is in lovely condition. The picture is a chromolithograph and at the top there is a representation of Baden-Powell. I have found a website on scouting that describes this game and gives the rules. Nine people can play, one to be a scout trying to get from the big red dot (I think) to the place where it says "Delivering the Despatch". The others try to put their marker in his way. The game would normally have markers in the shape of little scouts on metal bases. PRICE: £15.00

THE "DINKIE" BOWLING GAME - DESIGNED BY CHLOE PRESTON

This is a nice bowling game, copyrighted in 1928 and made about that time by Spears. There is a "bridge" which looks just like the lid of the box and stands on its own. Each of the three dogs has a number and the object is to roll the coloured "balls" through the paws and get the highest score. The instructions are in the lid. There are only two of the original coloured balls left but I may be able to find a few others in amongst all the bits and pieces in my store room. The "bridge" is in lovely condition and the box isn't bad although the lid has two split corners. PRICE: £30.00

"QUEEN MARY" AHOY! GAME

This is a great old game and there aren't too many about! Made by Robert Ross and Co. Ltd in 1936, it joined such other games as Chevy Chase, TT Motor Cycle Race Game, Ship-Ahoy and Flotilla made by the same company. The game comes in its original box - good condition but grubby on the lid, its board (which has some initials written in various places in pencil), its counters, cards and rules. The original dice and cup are missing but replaced by some from the same era. I saw this game on another site at £150.00 so here's your chance to save some money! PRICE: £60.00

TRENCHO - THE FAMOUS AUSTRALIAN WAR GAME

This is a great board made by Chad Valley back in the early part of the twentieth century - it's said to have been introduced in 1916 and it is definitely related to the first world war and trench war-fare. It is a variation of the game "Nine Man's Morris" and is played by two with nine "men" each (these could be counters, draughts or Halma men). The board is a chromolithograph in great colour. The rules are in the centre of the board. It is a bit tired with a bit of damage to one part but still playable and quite rare. If you require, I will supply two sets of "men" of your choice. PRICE: £45.00

MILLIONAIRE - WM. SESSIONS LTD, THE EBOR PRESS, YORK

This is a really gorgeous game and my husband wanted me to keep it to play but I'm sure your need is greater than ours! It came out in around 1949 and consists of a large board and a smaller box with playing pieces, "coins", cards and an instruction booklet. You won't believe the excellent condition of the all the items in this box! The box lid is split in two corners but otherwise is good, and the board is rather tatty on the outside but excellent inside (where it matters). A great and fairly rare find. PRICE: £50.00

ANOTHER GREAT GAME! - MEDITERRANEAN CRUISE

This Chad Valley game must date from the early 1950's and has a great picture by Kenneth Shoesmith on the large box. Inside are the board, a bakelite dice cup and die, the necessary eighteen picture counters and three player's markers. (There's no mention of how many there should be in the set but, if more than three want to play, plastic counters will do just as well.) The two-fold board is in good condition though the paper has split up the middle on the inside. The outside of the board looks a bit spotty - because the box isn't acid free, I think - but it's otherwise good. The dice cup is most likely the original and the dice is possibly original also.
