STOCK - VINTAGE CARD GAMES #01

THREE CARD GAMES

ROUND EUROPE - fairly scarce set. Contains full set of cards and 2 maps - both of which have been taped together at some ancient date (the tape's gone brown and crinkly). The cards are in good condition but the box is lacking its lid and is somewhat worn. PRICE: £10.00 AND

ROUND EUROPE - again! This set is in better condition than the one above, the box is complete (except for one small tab on the lid) as are the maps and rules. (this is the one in the photo). PRICE: £15.00

JUST WILLIAM - Complete and good condition with rules. The box is present and in reasonable condition. PRICE: £30.00

AND ANOTHER THREE!

These three games each come in a box that is in excellent condition. It's unusual to find LOBO in its box with the sliding mechanism still there and in good condition. The cards are in great condition, the rule book is as well. For those who don't know the game, it is based on the London Underground system and I've seen dates ranging from 1910 to 1930's. I'd lean towards the later date from the graphics on the reverse of the cards but I think some of the photos of the fronts may be quite a lot older. PRICE: £32.00

ASKIM is a Chad Valley game of question and answer. This set comes in its original box with lift off lid and includes the rule sheet. It's an interesting and amusing game! £12.00

ROUND BRITAIN is a game which has the description on the outside of the box as "The Road Safety Card Game, Successor to Belisha". It is made by Pepys, "vividly illustrated" with photo-like pictures of places round Britain. The game is in excellent condition - it doesn't appear to have been played with and the box and rules are in wonderful condition, too. The only draw-back is that on the card that is on the front of the box a little paper has been torn off. PRICE: £15.00

PETER PAN and THE CRIME CLUB card games

PETER PAN This game was produced by the International Card Co. until it was bought out in 1919 then by De La Rue for some years afterwards. This one is by De La Rue (you can tell by the backs) but the box is from the International Card Co. so it probably is from the 1920's. Whatever the date, the pictures on the cards are really lovely and from the drawings by Mr. Chas. A. Buchel. The cards are complete, in good condition though there are one or two slight bends, the box is taped but whole and the rules booklet is missing a page. PRICE: £25.00

THE CRIME CLUB This set, which comes in a dark blue/purple padded box, is in beautiful condition with its rules booklet, cards and 4 "values" cards. The game is based on Peter Cheney's characters and made by Pepys. PRICE: £25.00

NEWMARKET AND TWO MORE HORSE RACING GAMES

I know that Newmarket is already somewhere else on this site but I thought I'd put it together with another two horsey games as well. NEWMARKET is a card game published by Universal Publications Ltd. which comes in a dark blue padded topped box. This set is in really good condition, the cards being immaculate, the rules foxed and the box complete but a bit grubby. PRICE: £30.00
Next comes BACCARDO, an interesting game by an unknown publisher which came out in 1930. This set comes with the complete 50 cards plus the rules card. The playing cards are all in excellent, unused condition and the rules card has a little discoloration mark. The original box is slightly tatty but holds together and has no taping. PRICE: £25.00
Third is RACE-CARDO by CW Faulkner & Co. One source says it dates from 1965 and there is no evidence to the contrary that I could find. The cards are in excellent and complete condition along with two little rule leaflets. The box has all the corners split but holds together quite well despite that.SOLD

STOCK - VINTAGE CARD GAMES #05

MILITAIRE - CARD GAME

This is the later edition that comes in a box - not the wallet. It is complete with the little rule booklet. The cards are in very good condition, the box in good condition although it is missing the two tabs at the top and one at the bottom. PRICE: £20.00

STOCK - VINTAGE CARD GAMES #06

IAN ALLAN TRAINS game by Pepys

This is an excellent game for those of you who are "Locospotters and Railway Enthusiasts" (as it says on the edge of the box.) It has lots of pictures of trains and a station or two. It is complete with its rule book and comes in its original box which is a little the worse for wear with an ink stain in the lower corner - but there's no ink on the cards - and with a flap or two missing. PRICE: £18.00

STOCK - VINTAGE CARD GAMES #07

JACK OF ALL TRADES - Card Game

This is an interesting looking game - probably some sort of Happy Families rules, but they are missing. There are pictures of people with various occupations (policeman, gardener, butcher) and tools (handcuffs, wheelbarrow, sharpening steel) The cards are in good, slightly grubby condition and the telescopic box is complete but a bit rubbed. Price: £15.00 (PS Thanks to a very nice customer, I now have a photo-copied set of rules!)

STOCK - VINTAGE CARD GAMES #08

PROGRESS, PETER PAN AND NEWMARKET (YET AGAIN!)

Progress is a card game made by Pepys and based on the Religious Allegory by John Bunyan in 1678. It is an easy enough game to play and no knowledge of the story or religion is necessary! The cards are beautifully coloured and in excellent condition though they have been carefully played with. The rule book is in equally good condition, though the box has a torn part of its label. PRICE: £30.00

The game of Newmarket has been described elsewhere. This set is in excellent condition, though the box bottom has two split sides. PRICE: £30.00

This set of Peter Pan by Pepys could hardly be in better condition! The cards appear to be unused and the box is in great condition apart from a small tear just above and to the right of the R in Peter Pan. This copy is similar to the other on this page but in better condition all round and in a white padded box with green printing rather than red. PRICE: £30.00

STOCK - VINTAGE CARD GAMES #09

MICKEY AND THE BEANSTALK – PEPYS

This Pepys card game is in excellent condition, in its original box with 44 cards, the "beanstalk" and the rule booklet. The box has all its flaps and no tape marks but someone has written across it Merry Xmas from Penelope and there are some scuffs in the paper where, possibly, an auctioneer had a sticker. PRICE: £20.00 070907

STOCK - VINTAGE CARD GAMES #10

VACUATION

This is an interesting game based on the evacuation of children at the beginning of WWII. The game is by Pepys, though this isn't mentioned on the box or rules. The game is complete and the cards are in good condition. One of them appears to be from a different set as it is uniformly beige on the face side where the others are white. It makes no difference in the playing, though, as the back is exactly the same as the others. The box is very poor but present and could be partly restored by someone who knows what he's doing! PRICE: £20.00

STOCK - VINTAGE CARD GAMES #11

DAN DARE

DAN DARE is quite a rare set, by all accounts. It is complete and in very good condition including the box and the rules. PRICE: £30.00

STOCK - VINTAGE CARD GAMES #12

EXPRESS card game

This is a good 30's/40's card game in which the players have to "make up a train by collecting the necessary five cards" which match his "station". It took me and my grand-daughter (9) five minutes to work it out, then we had fun playing it a couple of times before bed-time. The game is marked British Manufacture and is in excellent condition in its original box which is complete except for the two side flaps at the top. These two sides are slightly torn down and folded and there are a few other minor tears in the box. Price: £20.00

STOCK - VINTAGE CARD GAMES #13

QUATUOR VOCABULAIRE

This is a beautiful set of cards from the late 19th or early 20th century. It is a collecting game based on various flowers and each card shows the name of the pictured flower in four languages - English, French, German and Latin. The fronts of the cards are what is called, I believe, enamelled (they're shiny) where the backs are matte and very plain. The corners are square which may indicate that they were made in the 19th century. It is unfortunate that one card (the pink) is missing but the other 47 are in very good condition with few bends and no tears. The box is in very good condition with the label a little torn in one corner (I think it must have been an auctioneer's label!) PRICE: £30.00

STOCK - VINTAGE CARD GAMES #14

CARD DOMINOES BY GOODALL

This is a lovely little set of cards which are printed to look like dominoes on one side and have an attractive black and gold pattern on the reverse. The cards are complete, have a gold edge and are in very good condition. The box is good but the slip cover is lacking the end - fortunately, the cards fit in the box so tightly that they don't fall out the top. PRICE: £8.00

STOCK - VINTAGE CARD GAMES #15

TRAVEL AGENT

The last time I had this game I thought it was complete but found, later, that it had a card missing. This time I've counted and they're all there - as is everything else that's supposed to be. In fact, it doesn't look as if it has ever been used. The box is in great condition with just a little grubbiness on the lid and the place where a small sticky label was. I can tell that it was bought at Harrods before 1971 as it has a small Harrods label on the back which gives its cost at 8/6. It's a little more now at: PRICE: £18.00

STOCK - VINTAGE CARD GAMES #16

PICTURE RUMMY AND PANTO PEOPLE

Here are two very nice examples of these card games. Picture Rummy is by R.Turner Ltd of Stoke Newington, London and was introduced in 1937. This game looks almost as though it's never been played. It is complete and comes with its original box and rules booklet. The box and booklet are in great condition although there is a scratch across the lid of the box. I particularly like this card game as it is rather like a jigsaw puzzle as you have to make up pictures from nine cards. PRICE: £25.00

Panto People is a half-size game of 42 cards plus the instruction card. There's no clue as to the maker, just the word Copyright on the box and instructions. The game is based on collecting three or more from a suit (Jack and the Beanstalk, Sleeping Beauty etc. The cards are in very good, possibly un-played with condition and the box is in very good condition with one missing tab. PRICE: £10.00

STOCK - VINTAGE CARD GAMES #17

FARMYARD CRIES - RACEY HELPS PICS

This is a lovely little card game made by Pepys. It is complete with its rules and in its original box. The cards are in good condition though there are several with minor bent corners. PRICE: £30.00

STOCK - VINTAGE CARD GAMES #18

KINGDOMS OF EUROPE - CARD GAME BY JAQUES

This is a late 19th century card game on square cornered cards and played in the same way as Counties of England. They come in only part of their box (the inner slide bit) and without their rules but the cards are complete and in very good condition. PRICE: £25.00

STOCK - VINTAGE CARD GAMES #19

THE FARAWAY TREE

Here's another Enid Blyton inspired game by Pepys. It's full of the characters from The Faraway Tree stories. It comes with its rules and box. The cards are in good condition, the box a little tired. PRICE: £25.00

STOCK - VINTAGE CARD GAMES #20

DISNEY WU-PEE

This is a nice Pepys game with four Disney characters. The object is to build up the picture of one or other of the characters from the 12 squares which fit together to make each - if that makes sense! The cards are in good, played-with condition, very clean and in their original box which is fair and with typed rules. PRICE: £22.00
