BREAD AND HONEY by de la Rue
This is a fairly rare game made around 1900 and played with 53 cards. This set is in excellent condition and even the box is good except for a little scribble on the face. The game is complete with all the cards but, if there was one, the rule card has vanished. If you want the set to play games with, I've got a copy of the rules. PRICE: £35.00

ALICE IN WONDERLAND
This is a really good set of this game which appears to have been made by two different manufacturers! On the box and on the front of the rule booklet it says Thomas De La Rue, Ltd but on the back of the booklet it says H.P. Gibson & Sons Ltd. Whoever made them, the cards are in lovely condition with one having a slight mark at the top. The rules are great, the box is complete (though taped). PRICE: £25.00

Early Jaques SNAP - square cornered cards
This is an early set of Snap with the Tenniel illustrations. It's complete and the cards are in good but grubby condition. They come in their original telescopic box which is complete but shows its age! There are no instructions. Price: £25.00

Card Game - Jaques Counties of England Series 1
This is a very early set of a game that was published throughout the first half of the 20th century. It consists of 61 cards plus a key card but there are no rules. The cards are square cornered and plain backed and are in excellent condition for a set that must be about 100 years old. Their box hasn't survived so well - it is missing the inner slide box and the front of the box has torn away on two sides. Price: £40.00
and I also have several other sets of various ages and prices. If you're interested, email and I'll send photos etc.

THE MOTOR HANDICAP SMASH-UP CARD GAME - 1920'S
This must be a rare card game as I've only seen one other which was un-named and the one in the book about Automobilia which has its name and a photo of its box. I can't tell from the photo who the maker was but I can see that there should be 96 cards in the set. This set only has 86 and no box or rules but any card game collector out there might want to buy these with the hopes of adding further cards later. The cards themselves are in reasonable condition with a few having a tear. PRICE: £25.00 (Thanks for Steve for letting me know that the game was published by Philpott and patented in 1920)

SET OF MIS-FITS BY FAULKNER - C.1900
This is a lovely little set of cards - 16 lots of three. Each three make up the head, body and legs of a person from a foreign country (eg. Swiss), a toy (eg. Golly) or a famous person (eg. Grace Darling). The set is in good, used condition but the box and rules have disappeared. PRICE: £45.00
and Another entitled ZOOLOGICAL MIS-FITS, also by Faulkner. A full set of 72 cards in its original box with a list of CWF Shilling Games on the reverse. The cards are in good, used condition and have such lovely personages as Paddy O'Leary - a dog doing a jig and carrying a sheleighlee; A Highland Laddie - a dog wearing a kilt and carrying a sheep; Jumbo - an elephant sitting on a small stool and holding a tray with a drink on it. The cards are chromolithographed - on the faces with the animals, on the reverse with a a pattern in light brown. The box is in fairly poor condition but the lid still has its top with a picture of An old Sea Dog holding a telescope and the information that the cards were printed in Bavaria - helping to date it to the early part of the 20th century or even a bit earlier. For photos, please email me. PRICE: £60.00

MANY FOLK MISFITZ c. 1906
This card game consists of 54 cards, each showing a third of a person from different countries (in national costume). The pictures are colourful chromolithographs and the backs are printed in green and white and show various symbols of Great Britain. The condition is superb with a slight amount of grubbiness on the faces and backs but no bends or tears. The original box (if any) is missing as are the rules. PRICE: £35.00

NOAH'S ARK CARD GAME
I'm a bit mixed up about this card game. On the rules it says it's by Gibson but other places on the internet say it's by De La Rue. Whoever published these wonderful cards, I say Hooray! The animals, particularly the babies, are so beautifully drawn. The set is complete with rules and the cards are in lovely condition; the slide box is missing ends but holds the cards. PRICE: £30.00

GOLLIWOGG - A ROUND GAME
This is an early 20th century card game by de la Rue. The characters and scenes on the cards are taken from Florence K. and Bertha Upton's stories and Florence Upton's original designs. The cards are complete and have been played with for the last hundred years plus yet have withstood much handling to be usable in the year 2010! There are no really bad bends, cuts, tears etc. The two page rule booklet has come apart in the middle but is completely readable, the box is a little tatty but holds the cards well. PRICE: £45.00

NEWMARKET CARD GAME & MORE
NEWMARKET is a card game published by Universal Publications Ltd. which comes in a dark blue padded topped box. This set is in really good condition, the cards being immaculate, the rules foxed and the box complete but a bit grubby. PRICE: £30.00 AND other sets (enquire)
TOURING is an American card game first patented in 1906 then produced later by Parker Bros. This set was introduced in the first half of the twentieth century and is in great complete condition but has been used. The instruction sheet is complete but taped and the box is in very good condition with all its corners intact. PRICE: £25.00
A SET OF SNAP CARDS - THE CLIFFORD SERIES. This set of Snap is in about as good condition as you can get. I think it was received and never even opened. The box is in excellent condition except for the 1/- written on it in pencil and the cards are immaculate. The set of characters is based on the wild west with Chief Red Eagle, Shifty Sam, One-Gun Pete etc. PRICE: £6.00 (and other, similar sets but not such great condition from £4.00 - please enquire)
AND A SET OF PLAYING CARDS BY DE LA RUE- the set shown is missing the Ace of Spades and was photographed by mistake! I should have shown the matching set. This one says "Good Morning", the other "Good Night". The pictures are by an artist called PITTARD and the young ladies are very glamorous in a 30's way. (There are no boxes) You can have both sets for £4.00

FOUR GOOD CARD GAMES
First, there's IT'S A GOAL. It is a complete game in great condition with its rule sheet. It's full of players from teams in the First and Second Divisions of the League (at the time it was published, obviously). The box is complete but tired. PRICE: £25.00 AND two copies of the slightly later GOAL, one in excellent complete condition PRICE: £25.00 and one in slightly used condition PRICE: £22.50 (ASK FOR PHOTO)
Next is WILD ANIMALS by the Cincinnati Game Company (I used to live in Cincinnati!). The cards are in good condition except the one with The American Badger on which has a tear and the Hyaena (sic) which has a smaller tear). The cards are complete and come with the rule book. The box, though, is missing. PRICE: £15.00
Next is a copy of the game of AUTHORS made by the Whitman Publishing Co. in the US. The set is complete with its rule card and comes in its original box. It has in it such authors as Dickens, Twain, Louisa M. Alcott and Tennyson. The cards are in good, used condition and the box is whole but tired. PRICE:£15.00
And the fourth is a set of PANTOMIME SNAP. These cards are in excellent condition. There are thirty four cards plus a rule card and all are in a lovely box which has a sliding cover. PRICE: sold

AND FOUR MORE!

SPEED in a GREEN box. Complete and in great condition! Box v. good. Rules present PRICE: sold (I have others, not in green boxes, some in not quite such good condition, from £8.00)
DONKEY by Arrow Games 1950's. Complete and excellent condition all round. £8.00
OLD MAID made in Hong Kong, 1950's. Complete with rules. £5.00

THREE VINTAGE CARD GAMES
The first of the games in this group is BLACK OUT. This is a fairly rare card game, especially in this condition. The game is complete with the rules, also on a card. The cards are excellent apart from one or two spots of foxing, the box is complete and in very good condition. It dates from about 1939. PRICE: £45.00
Next is a SOOTY game without a box. There appear to be three different Sooty card games and I know this one isn't Sooty's Magic but what it is called, I don't know. There are 46 cards all in quite good condition although someone has written ANN on the back of one of them, in pencil. As there is no box, no rules and I don't know if it's complete - PRICE: £10.00
The third game in this set is SNOW WHITE BY PEPYS. This is an early set that says: "By permission of Walt Disney - Mickey Mouse Ltd" on the rule booklet. This suggests a date of no later than 1939 for the cards as in that year the company changed its name to Walt Disney Productions. The cards are in lovely condition but the box is very poor. The rule booklet is whole and in reasonable condition. PRICE: £25.00 (and another set with even poorer box and quite grubby cards - £10.00)

FILM FANTASY - card game by Pepys
This is a great, complete card game with equally great photos from eleven Hollywood or British films from around 1939. (for a list of films/stars email me.) The winner of the game has to collect the four cards relating to each of two films so making two sets. The game comes in its original - quite shabby - box with its rules. The cards have been used but are in very good condition. PRICE: £25.00

STRIP TEASE
There are two card games that can be played with this set - one is a game of chance which can be played by four players, the other a game of skill for 3 or more players. The cards are beautifully illustrated. There are four suits of thirteen cards and a joker. The suits are "The Strip Tease" suit, The Theatre suit, the Court suit and the Prudie suit. The "story" in these cards is how different people feel about the young lady who is removing her clothing piece by piece: the Theatre people are pleased, the Prudies are prudes and the Court are deciding whether or not what she is doing is lawful - I think! Whatever, it's great fun. The cards are in lovely condition and come in a box which has seen better days but holds the cards together. There are two sets of rules, one for each type of game. PRICE: £25.00

DISNEY CINDERELLA
This is the set that all the little girls wanted when I was young! The pictures are so colourful and from the Disney cartoon. Everyone loves Cinderella! The set is complete with its box (average for a fifty year old box) and its rules (good). PRICE: £25.00

PANDAS' PARTY
This game is rather like a large jigsaw block when finished. It makes a great picture when complete of a party with Pandas (what else?) The set is complete and comes with its rules in its original box (a little tatty - it was made around 1940, after all!). The cards are in very good condition with colourful segments of picture. PRICE: £35.00

SHOP MISSUS
This is a Waddington's card game. There are 52 cards made up of 13 sets, each set printed with a picture of some easily identifiable object plus there are eight Traders cards. There is also a set of rules. Though it has been played with, this set is in really good shape and should make a good game to play with the family as there is a lot of shouting and jollity with it. PRICE: £14.00

MAKE A MILLION - PARKER BROTHERS
This game by Parker Bros. was introduced in America in 1935 (copyrighted 1934) and is "A game of simplicity, novelty and excitement!" according to the rules booklet which goes on to describe the play. There are fifty-five cards and the rule book in the red box which is very reminiscent of several of their other games including Pit and Rook. The cards, rules and box are in very good condition (although there is a little split in the lid of the game which is barely noticeable). PRICE: £20.00

PEPYS PANTO GAME
This is a nice little set of cards - 32 in all - with which you can make sets of Panto characters. It's a game for 3 - 8 players with the rules, the cards and the box in very good condition. PRICE: £25.00
